One of the primary axes regarding the strategic goals of the EDML is conducting low level measurements and designing electronic systems and protocols that enable such measurements. The group targets involve:
- Sensing very low level signals mainly to prototype Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods when materials are subjected to mechanical loading. The Pressure Stimulated Currents (PSC) NDT Experimental Technique was introduced in EDML in 2000.
- Acoustic Emission detection technique is used to determine internal damage nucleation.
- Very low and very high resistance measurements.
- Weak electrical voltage and current signal measurements.
- Novel electronic devices and measuring systems are designed and developed in order to conduct low level measurements under different environmental conditions.
- The data are analyzed and processed using mathematical tools for signal processing under the view of complex dynamic systems and non-extensive statistical physics.
The head of the Group is Prof. Ilias Stavrakas.
